Casita de Alma

A closet full of clothes, and yet you still feel stuck in a rut from not knowing how to make your and your kid’s clothes work together.  Mixing and matching kids’ clothing can be fun to express your little one’s personality. Experimenting with different fabrics, textures, and creative pieces can bring a new look to everyday ensembles.

Like which patterns go with what. And what colors work well together.  Over time by experimenting and playing with garments and accessories, paring pieces will come easy.

Start with incorporating your most loved and worn pieces. Use them – why not – it’s all about loving what you wear and being comfortable in it.  Start with a usual rotating piece and set a goal to create three new looks off of your base piece.

EXPIREMENT & ENJOY

  1. Dots, stripes, and animal prints may actually be treated as neutrals.
  2. Choose complementary colors
  3. Avoid dense prints with other dense prints. Try bringing in a print that is loosely scattered.
  4. To avoid getting to match-by-match, you’ll want to include variation if you’re mixing similar prints.
  5. To offset a neutral outfit try using a pop of color to accent under a neutral top layer and find your color-popping mojo
  6. If wearing a bold red is too daring for you, try, a more subtle yet similar tone like a burgundy or wine color
  7. Avoid mixing more than three items
  8. Take a picture.  Mirrors are great, yet a photo helps analyze from the outside with a fresh view.  Trust me, it’s more effective than that beautiful full-length mirror.
  9. Texture is as important as color and pattern when putting together an outfit. Mixing textures can add depth and interest to your overall look.

SEASONS & FABRICS

Fabrics are important when it comes to seasonal wear. Summer we want lightweight materials like cottons  (poplin, crepe, chiffon bamboo), tencel, linen, and silk are ideal for keeping you cool and comfortable.  Wool, tweeds, heavier cottons, velvet, satin, and corduroy are all great for fall and winter

And bouncing in both categories is polyester….oh no, the P word!  A quality polyester is nothing to shy away from. It’s a durable fabric that can offer a great silhouette.

Don’t be shy to mix and match your seasonal fabrics in layers.  Comfort is key.
